Government by the Idiots
I hope Jek’s hall project doesn’t turn out like this:
Here’s how they get things done in Washington: The Dirksen Building was built in 1958 for senatorial offices….. When the building was finished, they discovered that the floor was too slippery….. So they covered it with carpet….. But the carpet was too thick so the doors wouldn’t close….. So they took off all the doors and planed them down to fit the carpets they wouldn’t have needed if they had put down the right floor in the first place…….
Sounds like government specifications to me………

Ah, no worries there; the “hall project” is on schedule and under budget. HA! No such luck. For those that don’t know, Tarn and I have pulled up the carpet in the hallway to expose vinyl flooring which some crazy previous owner stuck to the original fir wood floors using black mastic. ARG! Now they didn’t stop there, two bedrooms were also treated to the same dark grey vinyl over wood floors. Perhaps not a big deal, except that the vinyl has asbestos. Doh! So today I’m getting a bid on the work to have it removed. I’m also going to get a bid on just chopping out the floor altogether. The scary part is we might spend all this money removing the vinyl floor and the wood floor might be damaged and need to be replaced anyway. In the end, we may just tile over it. Decisions, decisions, decisions…
