MR is OK
MR is doing fine. The surgeon told us that they were able to save both of his parathyroid glands. (The ones that regulate calcium.) They also got all of nodule/potential tumor out–along with the entire thyroid. Fortunately it appears the nerve to his vocal chords is fully operational, meaning that he is able to talk/complain. 🙂 It’ll be a week before the lab processes the nodule to see whether or not it was benign.
It is likely he’ll get out tomorrow. From internet research on thyroid removal, he thought he would only be able to eat soft foods for a few days. It turns out he can eat anything within his normal diet. It’s too bad though; we already bought a few days worth of food. Any one interested in SouthWestern Yam Soup, Lemony Lentil Soup with Cilantro, or Carrot Puree with Kalamata Olives?

Great news, jek. I knew he’d come through with flying colors. As for the rations, I’d save that stuff for the next Y2K type scare.

For those not familiar with Lemony Lentil soup it is best known under it’s trade name, Yellow food die # 9. Glad to hear that MR is Functional and every thing went 5×5.

Actually we can’t save the food ’til Y3K; we have all fresh ingredients. And Lemony Lentil Soup is a recipe on Epicurious.com. So there! 😛

BTW, MR is now back home as of an hour or so. I’ll be here until Tuesday helping him stay on the road to recovery. Feel free to call or drop by for support. Maybe MR will share his tale of the psycho ward.

Sounds like it went well. We’ll still be kinda antsy till those lab results come back, but so far, so
good. Our MR should be Ramblin’ again in no time.

I do hereby stand corrected on the Lemony Lentil Soup, But Jek must tell all the story of the Curry Soup and why he is not allowed to operate a blender anymore, Don’t forget the detergent.

I hereby want to thank everyone for their support throughout my downtime….. Anon thanks for the get-well card….. I spent most of the day at the V.A yesterday and they lowered my thyroid replacement medication which has made me feel better today…. I’m slowly getting back up to speed and I plan to be back in full control in the near future….. Again, thanks for all the support – It made the whole experience easier to deal with……

Oh that story J.J.!! Well, I’m trying to forget it really. It goes something like this: Want to make nice curry soup for sick MR while dressed in trendy Seattle-wear. Curry calls for turmeric. Shirt blueish. Curry chunky and hot. Blender too full. Hand not secure enough on lid. Blender no slow speed. Hot curry on shirt, counter, carpet, and J.J. Immediately treat shirt with stain stuff. Put shirt in washer. Came out still stained. Curry tasty though–good thing. Decide that what’s good for the pot is good for the shirt. Take large dose of leftover curry and soak entire shirt in it. MMM warm curry shirt–lookin’ yellow. Soak for long time. Wash again. Still stained–most of the soaked curry didn’t take. Moral: you can lead a well-dressed horse to curry but you can’t make him soak in it.
