Stones in China
Chinese authorities asked, no, told the Rolling Stones not to perform 5 of their songs at their first China concert. “Fortunately, we have 400 more songs that we can play, so it’s not really an issue,” Jagger said. Wanna guess which songs were objectionable? I’ll put the answers and a link to the Associated Press article in a comment of this post. Now, now… no cheating!

I’ll take a guess at two of them….. “Let’s Spend the Night Together” and “Sympathy for the Devil”….. I’ll have to think on the others…. “Midnight Rambler” may be in there too…..

I’ve got a few more to add to my list….. I’m basing these on the words…. I wonder how many Chinese speak English anyway?….. They contain lyrics about sex, drugs, religion, violence, and fighting in the streets….. Since I lost interest in the newer Stones stuff, I may be totally off-base…. Here they are – “Street Fighting Man”, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, “Heartbreaker”, and “Star, Star”…. It’s hard to single out a few Stones songs because most of them contain what could be called subversive lyrics to some degree…..

I’m guessing a double-bill of Tool and Rage Against the Machine would be pretty short!

Since they had to alter the lyrics to “Let’s Spend the Night Together” here in the good old USA back in the 60’s for the Ed Sullivan show, I’ll take that one. I would also guess “Satisfaction”, Star, Star & Sister Morphine. Same as MR, I haven’t paid a lot of attention to their offerings of the last decade or so.

You’re a funny HS. Well, good thing there is no prize or we’d have to half it between MR and Sunn. The only correct match is “Let’s Spend the Night Together”, a traditional song to ban. Here’s the link to the article in the Seattle Times. Answers follow:
“Let’s Spend the Night Together”
“Brown Sugar”
“Honky tonk Woman”
“Beast of Burden”
“Rough Justice” (assumed choice, see article for details)

jek, Guess they don’t approve of “kinky sex” in China, huh?

How did they get to be so many Chinese?…. I figured they would go against the violence as opposed to the sex…… I wonder if they are any black Chinese?…..

I have a recorded version of my band doing a very loose (Too-Loose, in fact) version of Flo and Eddies “Kung Fu Fighting” in the middle of “When the Music’s Over”…. Need I say it was a strange night?…. You’ll have to come over and hear one day….
