Immigrants or Illegal Aliens?……
I see the news media, in their infinite intelligence, are now calling all the illegal aliens we have immigrants!….. I think everyone on the blog knows my feelings about this subject from my previous posts – Border Patrol Officers and I don’t want to live in Mexico ……
I was just wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on the subject?……..

I agree. To my way of thinking, aliens are from another planet. Come to think of it, Mexico is like another planet. Just watched the movie Indpendence Day for the first time last night (I know, I’m a late bloomer). Got me to thinking about aliens.

I thought this article was a very insightful opinion.

TTop, I liked the article you referenced….. I think it is fairly well on the right track with one exception….. In my job, I have been around a good number of unauthorized immigrantos and for the most part, I have found that they don’t want to become American citizens….. They are here for the money, which they take back to Mexico, or to change their little part of America into Mexico…. This doesn’t make them terrorists or even a threat except to the economy….. Now, it may be different in other parts of the U.S., but Texas, Oklahoma, and probably California are the states that are most directly connected to the fluid state of Mexican immigrants…. Yes, most of them make regular trips back to Mexico on the weekends….. I’m open to suggestions as to how to handle the one’s that are already here…. I don’t know if they would want citizenship if you offered it to them…. All the protest footage I’ve seen have them waving Mexican flags and displaying signs written in Spanish…. If it were me and I wanted American citizenship, I would be waving an American flag and have signs in English stating my wish to become a citizen…. Am I that far off-base on this?….. What am I missing?….

I agree with your flag bit–seems like a good idea to wave the flag you desire, but I think you put too much into the part of sending money back to Mexico and making weekend trips. These people have family that they’d like to help take care-of and visit. They are in economic distress. I’m sure they’d rather stay in Mexico, but the sad fact is they cannot sustain a reasonable life there.

I understand and sympathize with their predicament, but, do you think it is right for them to not be bound by our laws and responsibilities (like paying taxes)and also have all of our rights like free medical aid, etc., etc?…. I think they should make the decision to either become American citizens with Mexican heritage or stay Mexican citizens and CHANGE their leaders and country by raising their standard of living…..

It’s clear to me that you are not trying to put yourself in the place of immigrants here. I know you have alot of complaints about our government, in particular the OK government. So how are you, as an individual, going to fix our government? And why haven’t you already? I guarantee you if you had nothing, and I really mean nothing, to live on; you’d move your butt to a different place, legal or not, and make good enough to live. It’s called survival instincts. It drives us all. It’s why we don’t die. So your black and white argument doesn’t hold water. I’m not saying I have an answer; I’m just disagreeing with your simplification.
