      It is indeed a Franklinism. 5 points. Now, for extra points, tell me what it means. I’m stuck on the part ” disorder breakfasts with plenty” and then you get to “sleeps with death”.

      I assume that it means that one can start out with plenty, and, if he lives his life and manages his
      affairs in a disorderly fashion, wind up with little or nothing. Is the quote from “Poor Richard’s
      Almanac” ? It might also apply to the affairs of a nation.

      You may be right. It kind of sounds political. Maybe something he said about England? More research is needed.

      I’m not getting very far. Found this…..”Pride breakfasted with plenty, dined with poverty and supped with infamy”. Ben did like to eat.

      Here’s my view of the phrase: It’s a statement on the “condition” of the general population of the country…. “Disorder breakfasts with plenty” means chaos/discontent among the masses, “dines with poverty” means these people are poor, “sups with misery” means they are hungry and/or sick, and “sleeps with death” means that due to these conditions death is a common result…. You go to sleep and don’t wake up….. So, what about that?….. All from my little brain…..
