Zappa Plays Zappa – Tour De Frank
I just saw that Dweezil and some Frank band members are playing a tour of Zappa music. This seems really cool. For more info, check out the Zappa Plays Zappa site. You can also read an interview with Dweezil here. I see that they are coming to Denver, Dallas, and Seattle. Sorry, didn’t notice any OK. Guest stars include Terry Bozzio and Steve Vai.

That is cooler than cool….. Looks like I will have to be in Dallas on December the 16th at the, can you believe it, NOKIA THEATRE!….. Another tax-payer funded building named after a business for a few fast bucks under the table….. What are people going to think of us a hundred years from now?…. Oh, well, I guess I don’t need to get started on the subject again…. It should be great, especially if Steve Vai is there….. It got involved with FZ by transcribing a lot of Frank’s guitar work…..

He does have a more “Metal” edge and speed playing to him than FZ or Hendrix, and, maybe I wouldn’t want to sit through a complete album or two, but, I was throughly impressed with the FZ transcriptions he did on Frank’s guitar work, and, they WILL be bringing Zappa to us old fans and exposing his work to new ones….. Doesn’t hurt to have a super guitarist on the stage….. As you know FZ’s music doesn’t get airtime to speak of, and his guitar work is very complicated and not even easily playable by the average rock guitarist….. I know, I’ve tried!….. Using Via’s transcriptions!…..

Vai also did some good work on the soundtrack and in the movie Crossroads.

The other guitar parts in “Crossroads” were done by none other than Ry Cooder, another excellent guitarist…… Cool photo you added Jek……
