While MR and JEK are on their road trip, they better come back with some good stories, here is the first quiz of the second round.
Divide a nation into parties or set your enemies at loggerheads and you can have your own way. Divide and govern. “Every city or house divided against itself shall not stand”…………was said by???

Well, Lincoln used it, but my answer would be Jesus: Matt. 12: 25.

Is it possible that we could have two correct answers again? Not the guy I was thinking of. I know very little from the Bible. Maybe you could tell us what Matt. 12: 25 says.

Here are a couple versions (including v. 26, just for purposes of continuity). I’m curious what the official answer is — it wouldn’t surprise me if the source was much older.
(NSRV) 25 He knew what they were thinking and said to them, âEvery kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.’
26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand?
(KJV)
[25] And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand
[26] And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?

The quote came from someone much later. What we got here is two men talking about the same idea but coming at it from different perspectives for different reasons.
Answer on Sunday but here is a clue…….think about “divide, govern, and city.”
I thought this week’s quiz was appropriate considering the upcoming election……..”divide a nation into parties”. A political paradox?

husky-sooner is correct. In June of 1858, Abraham Lincoln said, “A house divided against itself CANNOT stand.” But the quote as worded in the quiz is a verbatim quote of the dude from Nazereth (at least according to the King James Version). Whoever else may have uttered these words since, was only quoting the original. Of course, the KJV only dates back to 1611.

I screwed up. Five points to Huskysooner. The quote is from the Bible and was to illustrate Machiavelli’s maxim to divide your enemy and have your way…..Divide and Govern. I failed to see who the quote was attributed to and have little to no knowledge of the Bible. Machiavelli was what I was really after…..but….alas….I screwed up. Minus five points for me. I’m going to go sit in the corner now.

Howdy — We’re back from the big adventure. I’ll let MR post the first message about the trip. Needless to say, fun was had by all!

And all the time I thought it was Thomas Jefferson….. or Benny Franklin……. or some General Contractor bitchin’ about an Architect’s house design…..

That would be a minus if you weren’t getting over the big SIX OH.
