My haircut for Locks of Love
Well, I’ve finally done it. My hair is mostly gone. I didn’t just “Almost Cut My Hair”, I went ahead and did it. I’ve been growing it out for the last 20 months–all the way to 12″, and I plan on giving it to Locks of Love. They make wigs for children who have lost their hair from diseases such as cancer.
Before and after shots. What a difference!!
And what meal would be complete without…
…The Hair Plate Special. Yum.

What brought this on? I was just getting used to the “Grunge” Jek.

“Grunge” look, J.J.?….. Jek’s hair style went back to the “Woodstock” era – Mid-to-late 60’s after Sgt. Peppers and those “mop-top” musicians who started the trend….. A great contribution, Jek, but the question is: Are you going to start over and do it again?……. Just think of those poor kids……..

Jek, is those green areas in “The Hair Plate Special” something that was growing in there?…… A little “Fungus among us”…… Maybe a little more shampoo next time……. eh?……

JJ: That hair was starting to be a serious pain, not to mention too hot!
MR: Yep, I plan on growing it out again; it’s a natural resource you know.
The green you see
Is but the binds
Holding the clumps
BTW, I’ve been quite chilly the last few days. Brrrr.

The Beatles were the first to wear their hair long? Sheesh.
Our household has had 3 submissions to LoL (two from wifie + 1 daughter), but none from me, alas!

Of course, The Beatles were not the first males to have long hair, if you’re talking throughout history, but, in America, and most “civilized” countries, from the 1920’s on, long hair on males was not acceptable in our society…… By the ’50’s, Flat-tops with no sideburns and basically shaved sides were all the rage….. After The Beatles performed their last live concert in ’66 and became a studio band, they let their hair grow from the already unacceptable, by the older generation, “Mop-Top” length to what we see on the “Let It Be” album cover……. The youth movement immediately adopted the long hair as an instantly recognizable protest to the older generations beliefs and dogma….. In Oklahoma, in the late ’60’s, you were, at times, taking your life in your own hands by having long hair…… Believe me, I lived through it……

Heh heh: “Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?” 1Cor. 11: 14.
The Beatles weren’t exactly anti-establishment protest music, a la Dylan. Weren’t they simply at the head of the trend, rather than starting it themselves?
June 29th, 2007 at 7:27 am
Right, HS, The Beatles didn’t grow their hair long with the idea of starting any kind of anti-establishment protest…… I think it was more of an English rock musician thing and since they were the one’s at the top with their pictures all over the news Worldwide, it’s easy to see how they would be credited with it……
Funny, you should mention Dylan…… The Beatles met Dylan in ’66, he was the one who turned them on to pot, and this was a major influence on their next album, Rubber Soul, and basically all of their albums thereafter……

I think Jerry Lee Lewis probably had hair longer than the Fab Four. Just wore it in a classic 50’s Doo.

Until he started poundin’ on his piano!….. I’ve seen old videos of him – the hair was everywhere…….. JPGR were highly influenced by our American R&R and Blues artists…… It was always said that the “British Invasion” was just our Blues and R&R revamped and thrown back in our own faces……

I was originally shooting for a Georgian look, like this image of Toby Stephens in Jane Eyre. Unfortunately my hair never sorted itself out so well, thus I went with Plan B: Grow it out long enough to donate it.
