MR’s De-Educational Quiz – Apollo 11….
We all know Neil Armstrong’s first words when he set foot on the moon…… Or do we?….. The quote goes:
“That’s one small step for man. One giant step for mankind.”
Neil had to have the recording played back to him during de-briefing because he was sure that was NOT what he said…… For One (1) White Knight, what did Neil Armstrong think he said?….
For another White Knight, what were Buzz Aldrin’s first words he, the second man, said after stepping on the surface?…… And, for the bonus: Buzz Aldrin was the second man on the moon, but, he was the first man on the moon to do what?…… One (1) White Knight plus Two (2) White Pawns for this one……..

“That’s one small step for a man…”, if I recall correctly.
As for Buzz, I’d have to guess that he was the first to hit a cheese boulder while driving drunk.

Wasn’t Buzz the first to hit a golf ball?

Zook grabs up One (1) White Knight for the Neil quote…… Neil was so sure that he said “for a man”, he couldn’t believe it when he heard the playback….. If we wouldn’t have had a live feed, history may have recorded it Neil’s way….. Both of you are way off on Buzz’s contribution…… No one remembers what Buzz said as he set foot on the moon?…… Human Nature I guess, I didn’t either until I checked my reference…… I guess being No. 2 doesn’t mean much…..

Buzz said That’s a good last step
Buzz put up the flag.

Buzz may have said “That’s a good last step”, But that was NOT what his “First” words were when he first stepped on the Moon…… Buzz did put up the flag, but, he did something else before that which is the first thing I am talking about….. Too soon for hints……

Although not terribly conclusive, some research suggests he did not, in fact, flub the quote:

First man to write his name in the sand in yellow. Can still be seen with a good telescope when the moon is full.

As hs points out, some experts believe that Armstrong did include the “a”, but it is inaudible due to the limits of the communications equipment available at the time. But there is another error in your quote–it’s “One small step for (a) man, one giant LEAP for mankind.”
Buzz Aldrin’s first words were “Beautiful. Beautiful. Magnificent desolation.”

I know they took some special Hassie to the moon—was Buzz the first to take a picture on the moon?

RtG gets One (1) White Knight for Buzz’s first words on the moon, and, I’m also giving him Two (2) White Pawns for pointing out my typo that I even missed – It was LEAP for mankind…… I didn’t even notice, I guess your brain tells your eyes what to see, at least, in my case…..
Anon, if you were looking for negative points with your answer, I have to disappoint you….. Buzz was the first man to pee in his pants on the moon due to the excitement of it all….. The space suits were equipped with urine dumps for just such an accident…… So, Anon gets One (1) White Knight and Two (2) White Pawns for his looby answer…..

So does that mean that he peed before he put up the flag? Is this quiz actually finished?
August 30th, 2007 at 8:06 am
Yes, Jek, this quiz is finished……. Buzz whizzed shortly after stepping on the moon’s surface, long before he unfurled the flag…… A “points” (for lack of a better term) update will be up by Saturday and a new Quiz up on Sunday…… Watch for it…. It’ll be here……
