   How do you think this would have been handled by the last administration? Scary thought?

   I think they would’ve just let it go and attempted to keep it from the American public, since the pirates were just stealing stuff and not hijacking the ships…… Now, if the pirates were hijacking oil tankers, ‘ol GWB would’ve brought down the full force of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines – Not to mention the CIA along with all the new covert ops we probably have now…… GWB’s oil cronies wouldn’t have accepted anything less…… But, to save someone who put himself in harm’s way to protect and save the lives of his crew without regard to his own safety, forget it – not worth the effort (lost profits and threats of elevated attacks)….. To them, the Captain would have just been another bozo in the wrong place at the wrong time…..

   According to the experts a potential oil spill from a tanker is less desirable than a ransom. Better to pass on the cost of a ransom to the consumer than risk lives and property….which is the position of insurers.

   I wondered why they haven’t used WWII tactics but apparently maritime law gets in the way as there is no declared war.

   It looks as if there was another attempted piracy of an American ship…… I just caught part of it on the news….. Seems they were attacked by two boats with RPG’s and AK47’s….. They didn’t gain access and retreated before one of our Naval ships arrived…. Maybe they will go to WWII convoy formations with naval escorts….. In international waters, I don’t know if there has to be a declared war for a country to legally protect their ships…. That would seem really stupid if it was illegal….. ….Oh, I forgot, the way the World is now, it probably is illegal….. We need a worldwide infusion of common sense, respect for others, and the assumption of responsibility for one’s actions…..

   They are using convoys but are not practical….too many ships. Suspected mother ships cant be blown out of the water. You have to board them and ask for papers. If attacked, you can defend yourself.

   The french captured a “mother ship”. I saw the photos. One guy in a 20ft. skiff with 50 gal. cans of what I would guess was gas. Someone forgot the definition of “ship”.

   From what I gathered from the reports on the first attacks on American ships, the crews were not armed with any kind of weapons to defend themselves…… Maybe they should place a small detachment of marines with two or three 6″ or 8″ naval guns along with an ample supply of small arms on each ship….. Even a near miss would blow a 20′ boat out of the water….. The expense (for those who base everything on the value of how much it costs in dollars) would be a lot less than the expense of using destroyers and cruisers as escort ships….. Then sit back and let them fire the first shot….
