The home of the BRAVE
I was listening to Eggman the last 2 days and the topic of choice is the controversy surrounding the singing of the National anthem at Sooner games. Now it has been over 30 years since I set foot inside Owen Stadium for a game but I hear the new thing is at the end of the Star Spangled Banner the crowd says The Home of the Sooners. The proper words are The Home of The Brave. Some are saying that it’s no big deal but I disagree. The Song is the official song of the nation, our National anthem. It has lyrics that mean something, And many of our fellow citizens went to foreign lands and made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could have the freedom to sing that song.
Now some say “It’s just a song, one word doesn’t matter” But it Does. It is disrespectful to the memory to those that fought and died for our freedom to change the words.
University President Boren, and Head Coach Stoops have asked the fans not to sing that way but it seems to go on.
I say Just because we have the right, does not mean it’s right to do. Now this weekend we play the Air force academy in Norman, I hope that the over zealous half drunk fans at the game can realize that this might be offensive to others and sing it right.
Now don’t get me wrong I hope we send the AF Players back to Colorado Springs mourning their loss but lets show them that we have some class in doing it.
GO SOONERS

You’re preachin’ to the choir here, J.J. – I agree with you 100%….. The worst thing about being from Oklahoma is putting up with our radical, fanatical OU fans….. They’re ready to make Stoops King of the World when OU’s winning, and, just as ready to burn him at the stake when they lose a game, Geesh!….. Don’t get me wrong, I support the Sooners, but, after all, it’s a GAME!….. You win some, you lose some – Hopefully your wins exceed your losses, and, OU makes it to a bowl…. That’s where the stitch is – Stoops couldn’t win a bowl game even if they were to run in a junior high school team as the opponents….. A sad but true fact…. Go Sooners – Well, do the best you can, and, remember, some of us don’t live, eat, and die for football – Some of us are normal and fans too…..

One of the great things about our country is that we can make fun of our selves, get on a soap box, vote in the underdog, vote, pray, and sing the way we what, its called freedom.
If you like your Freedom sing the song any way you like, I will sing it the way I like.
The press will report it the way they like (make up news).
With out the press this would not even be news.
