This is our Future in…..
Entertainment?….. I just ordered “Murder by Death” from Amazon.com, a movie with Peter Falk in it to go along with all my “Colombo” videos…. Â The other Peter (Sellers) is also in it , along with quite a cast….. Â As a “FREE Gift”, they included a “Video on Demand” version of the same movie!….. Â Not a movie of my choice, but, the exact same movie that I just purchased on DVD!….. Â This allowed me to watch the flick on my Mac, right now, instantly, before I received the DVD in the mail….. Â Of course, I’ve already paid for the DVD, but, I couldn’t pass-up watching it NOW!….. Â Luckily, I liked the movie well enough that I will probably watch it more than once after I receive the hard copy….. Â If I wouldn’t have like it, I probably would have been a bit peeved about the whole thing……
It looks like we are getting closer and closer to “Spaceballs: The Movie” every day….. Soon, just like in Spaceballs, we’ll be able to see the movie BEFORE it’s made!….. Mel Brooks knew what he was talking about…… The Economy might be in the dumpster, but, our Entertainment Technology is cutting edge…..

As with all new formats, there are advantages and disadvantages…… The “Advantages” SHOULD be: (1) Instant viewing (No Problem), (2) Cheaper Cost (No Disc), and, (3) FREE software updates (The Customer SHOULD be given free updates just like any other software, instead of having to purchase the same movie every time the Studios change formats or bring out “Collector Editions, 3-D versions, etc…)….
The current “Disadvantages” that I see: (1) No subtitles, and (2) No “Special Features”……
The Studios are pushing the Instant Viewing angle, but, as far as Cheaper cost and Free updates – DON’T expect it!….. They are GREEDY Bastards without a doubt, and the words “FREE” and “CHEAP” are NOT in their vocabulary….
We’ll just have to wait and see what course the Studios take… I just know I’m finished with being sucked-in to buying the same movie over and over again every time they change and/or add new features to a product I have already paid for….. I haven’t “upgraded” to Blu-Ray, and don’t plan to….. I have a huge Video library, and intend to purchase one or two back-up “Up-Scale” regular DVD players so that I can continue to watch all my videos when they decide to stop making the players….. Anyone got a working Beta machine?….. Mine all need repair, and I have some home movies on Beta tapes that I need to get transferred over to DVD format……

I’m totally cool with a pay-per-view model that’s cheap. I don’t need to ‘own’ anything. I just want to watch whatever I want, when I want. Got extra features? I’ll pay a few cents to watch them thank you. Heck, I’ll even throw a penny in for MR’s subtitles. Are you listening studios? Oh yeah, one other thing: I want to take my time to watch movies. This whole 24 hour limitation crap doesn’t cut it.

I agree, Jek, I just barely found time to watch the movie once in the 24 hr time limit….. It seems NetFlix is about the best going right now in the “streaming video” business….. Still no sub-titles nor extra features yet….. Maybe soon…..
