Solution ?
I have a solution for the Debt crisis, Although I’m sure that most of the people that it will effect the most don’t want to hear it, and will tell me thousands of reasons that it won’t work.
Today Sen. Tom Coburn (R)OK put forth his plan for the crisis, it includes cuts to medicare, veterans paying more for services that they were promised and the same old BS.
Here’s the J.J. Plan:
1st. Flat Tax, abolish all tax loopholes/Deductions that the wealthiest take advantage of daily (as a truck driver myself included) Pay a percent on all goods and services period, no deductions, loopholes, earned income credit, etc.
2nd. Bring the troops home. lets quit being the worlds police force and trying to force democracy on the rest of the world. Let the rest of the world take care of them selves.
3rd. Cut salaries of the government. From the president all the way down to the guy who mops the floors. Why does the president need to make $500.000,00 per year, what does he have to buy while in office?. Let all the politicians all the way down the food chain make a living wage. $50.000,00 per year sounds fair to me. Why does any politician need to make anything above that? We elect them to go to their posts and represent us, not to make their fortunes.
4th. Lets abolish some of the pork-barrel government agencies. Why do we need a department of transportation, AND a Federal Highway Administration. Combine them, as well as some of the other government redundant agencies.
Now I know that it is simplistic, and did not require a college degree in finance or political science, but in my small simple mind I think it might just work.
Ok everyone tell me why it won’t work.

1. I’m all for eliminating loopholes, but I’d prefer to see a real progressive tax. In eliminating loopholes, you should consider that long-term capital gains are taxed at a max of 15%, not like regular income.
2. I’m with you here. We spend more on defense than the rest of the world combined.
3. You may have an argument for politicians, but I think you’d have a hard time arguing that most government employees are significantly overpaid.
4. I’m not sure I follow. The FHA is part of the DOT.

Concerning zook’s reply to J.J.’s number 1, I must concur. It’s in the math. As it stands Warren Buffet’s secretary pays more as a percentage in taxes than Buffet (Buffets own words). Most wealthy people live off investments rather than wages.
A flat tax shifts the tax burden down the ladder away from the wealthy. Watch who supports the idea.
2. How misplaced and wrong headed ideas end up like punching the Tar Baby. Pushing American influence around the world comes back to bite us.
3.Not sure what would be fair, but could start with putting congress in medicare with the rest of us. Might change things.
4.Pork bad. Vegetables good.

Zook: I think we are on the same wavelength. Please elaborate on the Progressive tax, That sounds like something that I could possibly get behind. My thoughts on the flat tax stems from the fact that everyone buys things even the wealthy, and corporations a flat sales tax on everything makes sense to me.
2. That is my point we need to spend that money on Defense, Not trying to force our ideals on the rest of the world.
3. Thank you for clarifying my statement, It was directed at the top 2 branches of Government.
4. What I was trying to say is we need to streamline Government. Maybe my example was a little vague, I was referring to my industry, I am regulated by both the department of transportation, and the Federal Highway Administration. Another example, The department of the interior, regulates all the national parks, which are part of the National Park Service.
I am about to check out your link. Comments to follow

Anon: 1. That is exactly my point, WB has more loopholes and can afford better tax attorneys and accountants to pay less tax.
3. Fair in my opinion would be a living wage for the area that you live/and or work in. I may get in trouble for this but the top two levels of our government is becoming just like the socialist class model from soviet Russia.
4. I’m sorry I do not agree with part of your comment, There’s nuthin’ better than some chops with some baked squash.

My mistake. I forgot about BBQ ribs and alder smoked bacon.
