Columbo Quiz…..
No, the quiz isn’t about Columbo, it was in one of the Columbo episodes entitled, “Caution: Murder Can be Hazardous To Your health”….. Â In the episode, Columbo asks George Hamilton, who plays Wade Anders, a host on “Crime Alert” – one of those, “If you’ve seen this person and/or know their whereabouts, call and turn them in” type shows……
Here’s the set-up, Wade Anders is to be a presenter at an awards show – Columbo finds him as he is signing some autographs – Hamilton’s character Wade Anders states, “No business like show business, eh, Lieutenant?” Â Columbo replies, “Oh, you can say that again, sir. Â Talking about show business, do you know the first actress that was ever on a postage stamp?”
There’s your quiz, who was it?….. Â The answer has a familiar name associated with it for you Seattle-ites…… Â Sorry, no prizes for this one, but, let me know if anyone’s ready for a full-blown quiz-o session in the future……

Daffy Duck………it rains a lot here.
Quizzz on.
August 15th, 2011 at 5:13 pm
You’ve done it now, Anon!…… You’re going to have Daffy and PDB Bob after you….. They’re in the War Room making plans and contacting Acme for supplies right now…… I far as I know Daffy is a male duck – As far as him being an actor, that’s a matter of opinion…… I like him ( I was forced to say that), and, he has been on a Postage Stamp!….. If you can believe that….. Oh, Yeah, WRONG answer!……
August 16th, 2011 at 1:19 am
Sometimes Daffy was in drag.
Second guess…..Francis Farmer
August 16th, 2011 at 8:37 am
Francis Farmer?…… Never heard of her (She is a her, Right?)….. I’ll have to look her up….. Probably someone I’ve seen and didn’t know her name….. Anyway – Nada on the answer…… Deposit Quarter and try again……
Oh, Yeah, Daffy says, “You’re Despicable!”…..
August 16th, 2011 at 5:31 pm
Francis Farmer was an actress from here whose claim to fame was that she was thrown needlessly into an asylum against her will. I dont think she made it on a stamp unless it was a stamp commemorating the medical profession.
Second guess: The woman who played Tug Boat Annie on TV.
I suppose you noticed Daffy spoke with a lisp. I’m just saying…..
August 16th, 2011 at 6:15 pm
was it Betty, Mary or, Dense, maybe Kim
August 16th, 2011 at 7:27 pm
That’s a bizarre story about Francis Farmer….. I don’t know who played Tug Boat Annie – I need a name, Anon….. It’s hard to write a lisp for our beloved Daffy – Let’s see – You’re Des-s-s-pick-cah-bul……
Robo, I need first and last names, but, for the record, none of the first names you give are correct…..
I’ll give a clue tomorrow, if no one gets it before then……
August 17th, 2011 at 4:53 pm
They made a movie about Francis’ life awhile back. An upcoming M.M. Hollywood type.
Tug Boat Annie, you know, a big women on a tug boat. Started her career in film way back about the time of Wallace Berry.
August 17th, 2011 at 5:06 pm
I guess it’s CLUE time, as it seems we are getting further and further from the correct answer…… The Actress (who’s name IS the answer) appeared on a U.S. Postage Stamp in commemoration of her marriage to a member of a Royal family member of a foreign country…..
Another Clue tomorrow – If needed…….
August 17th, 2011 at 8:51 pm
the duchess of York?
the duchess of Welles?
the duchess of brittany?
August 18th, 2011 at 7:36 am
You’re knee deep in Guizin’, Robo, she wasn’t the duchess/princess/ whatever of anything until AFTER she married into a Royal family and was very famous in her own right before the marriage…… Another Hint: It was NOT the Royal Family of England…… Like I said, she was a very famous actress and I will make the “Jek and MR Standard Bet” with anybody that they will know the actress by name when the answer is given….. Another hint later today……
August 18th, 2011 at 1:36 pm
Lucille Ball
Marilyn Monroe
August 18th, 2011 at 1:48 pm
Barbra Strisand
Joan Crawford
Elizabeth Taylor
Katharine Ross
Kim Hunter
Shirley MacLaine
Julie Andrews
Audrey Hepburn
Natalie Wood
Jacueline Bisset
August 18th, 2011 at 1:51 pm
I’m not sure if both or either were on a U.S. Postage stamp, but, They were NOT the FIRST actress to be on one…….
As for the mega-guizer list you just submitted while I was typing this – Sorry, all misses……. I give Anon (and anyone else) time to look over what you’ve done before I post another hint up later today…….
August 18th, 2011 at 4:41 pm
Grace Kelly
Something to do with Seattle????
(Should be Tug Boat Annie. Hell of an actress and a hell of a tug boat captain. )
August 18th, 2011 at 4:59 pm
Anon finally gets it!…… Here’s the dialogue after Columbo asks the question, Anders says, ” No, I don’t, Lieutenant., Now, who was that?”….. Columbo replies, “Grace Kelly. When she married Prince Rainier.”….. Anders says, ” You don’t say.”…. Columbo finishes up with, “To commemorate the wedding.”…… Although, Mt. Rainier was not named after this particular prince, I think you’ve heard of it – Right, Anon?….. That’s the Seattle connection to Grace Kelly being on a U.S. Postage Stamp…… Columbo Quiz Case Closed…… Tug on that – Ha-Ha…..
August 18th, 2011 at 8:07 pm
They did a series of stamps of the Kennedys and Marilyn was in that run. They did a series of TV comedians and Lucy was in that one. The rest were just guesses
August 19th, 2011 at 5:04 pm
Some clue.
Not too obscure.
Send me my prize.
August 19th, 2011 at 5:43 pm
Ha! Anon, caught you!….. Trying to pull a fast one, eh?….. Read the last line of the Post – NO PRIZES…… Have Tug Boat Annie give you a ride around the Lake…… What would she be now?….. ‘Bout 90 or so…… Might be fun….. Toot – Toot!……
August 20th, 2011 at 4:57 pm
Only time I win a quiz I dont get a prize. Seems more than unfair.
August 20th, 2011 at 5:43 pm
I’ll make a note of it, and, if and when we have another quiz, your victory here today will be taken into consideration in some form or another…… Congratulations, YOU BIG WINNER, YOU!…… Enjoy your fame……
August 20th, 2011 at 6:11 pm
All hail ANON big quiz winner, Congratulations! 🙂
August 21st, 2011 at 9:03 am
Um-m-m-m?…. Nobody said they wanted another Quiz-O?….. Just for that reason, expect one in the near future…… Maybe it was because there were no PRIZES….. eh?…… Okay, Okay, the next Quiz-O will have a Prize/Prizes you won’t be able to live without (A bottle of Oxygen, maybe (Ha!))…… As Daffy sez, “What a Way to Run a Railroad”……
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:23 pm
I’m a WINNER, I’m a BIG WINER. Publisher’s Clearing House is knocking on my door.
MR, if you look back you will see I said to “quiz on”. I was assuming there would be fabulous prizes though.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:42 pm
Anon, you made the “Quizzz on” statement way back in the first comment….. I thought you were referring to this Quiz…… Now, I know….
You want magazines for your prizes?…… I have a bunch of old ones lying around….. I’ll remember that next time you win a Quiz, as a matter of fact, I have some old Time magazines I can send you for winning this one if that’ll make you happy (Ha!)……
August 23rd, 2011 at 5:17 pm
Dont want no Times. Too old for girlie mags. Got any fishing or music mags?
August 24th, 2011 at 10:03 am
Anon, don’t wish for something – You may just get it!…… No Rod and Reel Books, but, I have music books running out of both ears…… You read TAB, right? (where they have 6 lines and they indicate which finger you place on which string at which fret), or maybe you read music…… Anyway, I’m not sure that I have your address – I remember the street, but not the number or the zip….. E-mail it to me, and you will be awarded a surprise music book of an Artist of MY choice…… So There, You DID win a prize…… Enjoy……
August 25th, 2011 at 5:23 pm
Yes I can red tab but hate that too. We talked once about a book you have (somewhere, you were going to look) of blues and/or rock forms…..??????? Sound familiar?
Ever find Jesse Sykes and The Sweet Hereafter?……..”Marble Son”
August 26th, 2011 at 10:24 am
I know the book you are referring to, and, no, I haven’t found it yet, BUT, I have started going through all of my stuff in storage, so, the odds are that I will find it in the near future…… BUT, you do understand – I control the PRIZE you get! (Ha!) – So, send me your address by e-mail and you will get something!……
I checked out Jesse Sykes, the “Marble Sun” album…. Sounds more like the “Beatles” during the “Abbey Road” era, with some Badfinger and the Byrds thrown-in….. I also listened to some of the other songs with the Chick singer in the foreground….. Pretty good Country Rock…… Definitely worth listening to…..
August 26th, 2011 at 3:32 pm
I heard Jerry Garcia and Duane Eddy and on another CD the Momas and the Poppas would you believe.
Send you my address? So you can send me whatever? Should I? I will if you put a correct return address on anything you send. No screwing around. Remember, I can get your address from Jek.
August 28th, 2011 at 8:01 am
