“Fire and Rain”…

Just finished listening to “Fire and Rain” by James Taylor……  My mind wandered a bit and I started comparing the song’s title to our weather this Summer in Oklahoma……  The “Fire” part we have exceeded on all levels – Temp wise we tied the all-time record of days over 100 (50 Days) Saturday, and since we still have plenty of HOT days left in the Season, I’m sure we will break it in the next day or two…..  Wildfire wise – We’ve had ’em large and destructive everywhere mainly due to the fact the “Rain” part has come little and far between, and at an expensive price…..  When you have temps in excess of 100 and a little moisture in the air, you get what’s called “Micro-Burst” or “Down Draft” thunderstorms that cause “Gust Fronts” up to and in excess of 100 MPH (F-1 Tornado level – only straight not twisty)……  JT didn’t include “Wind” in his song – He should have……  Example: A few weeks ago we got less than 1/4 inch of rain…..  The Price of this precious little bit of moisture was 50,000 businesses and homes without electric- 100 year old trees uprooted – Damage/total destruction to houses, property, animals, vehicles, etc….  All for just a drop or two of rain that turned into a short “Steambath” the next day……

What does all this mean?……  Who knows?……  I don’t know which is gotten worse – The Weather or The Politicians.….  We need a change on both fronts or as they said in the ’50’s it’s time to, “Put your Head between your legs and Kiss Your Ass Goodbye……  Maybe Chicken Little was right?……

  1. Well, we did BREAK THE RECORD today that was set in 1980!!!! 103 degrees – that’s day 51….. Although we broke the 50 days over 100 degrees in Oklahoma City, it’s really nothing compared to the Southern part of the State and Northern Texas…… They’re workin’ on 70 days over 100 and highs in the 115 zone….. Now that’s Hot – Two and a Half Months of almost continuous 100 Temps is ridiculous!!!!!……

Can the Weather get any Stranger?…… Probably!……

  2. Today I saw the forecast 100 plus for the next 6 days.
51 days at 100 plus and counting. That’s enough 100 plus days that if it’s melt-able it’s MELTED.

  3. James Taylor?!

  4. I’m not afraid to admit I like some of JT’s stuff, HS…… I started out playing in a basically Country Rock/Early R&R band….. We didn’t play any JT, but, I like to think I have a broad mind on GOOD (I know that’s a relative term) Music……

Actually, I heard it on my OLD radio in my OLD ’89 Raider….. Don’t have any of that costly, fancy satellite radio/MP3 player/CD player….. I do have a cassette built-in the radio, but, with temps like this I don’t dare leave any cassettes lying around in the locked-up Raider….. Melted plastic and crinkled tape just won’t fit in the player, and I know, if I had them in the Raider, I would forget and leave them there…..

  5. May I suggest to those listening, who like county and rock, you might want to listen to Jesse Sykes and The Sweet Hereafter (the band)…CD “Marble Son”.

  6. Read my comment 29 on the Colombo Quiz…… Good listening……
