Desert island music
I think each person on here fancies themselves a musical aficionado. Typically, “Top X” lists are pretty silly (e.g., the Rolling stone top-100 guitarists list we discussed sometime back), but….
It would be cool to hear peoples’ lists of desert island albums. As to arbitrary ground rules, I’m thinking top-10 albums/CDs. They can be double-albums but no “Complete Works of the Beatles” or any other circumventing of the rules like that :-). Live albums are fine. Rock, blues, gangsta rap, jazz, classical, or anything else musical is fine.
I mostly have my list down but need to think about it a bit more…
Feel free to discuss the ground rules and we can modify if desired.

I think it’s a great idea, HS….. As a matter of fact, I’ve been uploading a bunch of my CD’s to my iTunes, so I’ve been listening to cuts that I haven’t heard in many a year….. I have at least a handful (five fingers – i.e. Five) of albums off the top of my head that would definitely be in my “Desert Island” collection, but, I need a few days to determine the remaining five….. That will take some hard thinking/listening to crop it down to just 10 total albums to listen to for the rest of your life, but, it will be fun to see what everyone comes up with…..

I have a quick list of bands/artists but I will have to figure out the albums considering that I can’t just say the best of_____.

Yeah, that makes it much harder! If you want to briefly give the reason(s) for why each one makes the list, that’s encouraged.

This is like homework.
How can you decide? There’s too much music to pick from….all the way back to guys beating on logs with clubs. So I had to pick categories mostly and then artists and some cheating. I hope there is a log and some clubs on this desert island. I get bored easy.

Anon,
Any time someone asks me about Bela Fleck, I just tell them to google “Bela Fleck Next.” Holy moly.
February 7th, 2012 at 12:02 pm
Like Anon, well, a little like Anon, I would want my entire music collection with me, and my guitar with lots of extra string sets and picks…… BUT, here are ten (10) albums that I could listen to day in – day out, and not get bored or sick of them….. These are not in any order as to favorites – just a list that I wrote down as they popped into my mind:
Let It Bleed – The Rolling Stones
The Beatles (White Album) – The Beatles
Get Your Ya-Ya’s Out! – The Rolling Stones
Straight Up – Badfinger
Over-Nite Sensation – Frank Zappa & The Mothers
Aqualung – Jethro Tull
Band of Gypsys – Jimi Hendrix
Ton-Ton Macoute! – Johnny Jenkins
The Complete Recordings – Robert Johnson
Who’s Next – The Who
That’s it, and, I did stick to single albums, not compilations, with the exception of the Robert Johnson 2-disc set since that was the only way it was released.

You have to be more specific, Robo, My little brain is only so big, BUT, unlike you Ho-mans, I use 110% of it….. Maybe that’s why I have those sudden blackouts and come up with super-detailed plans, like my 1,100 page synopsis on “How to boil a 3-Minute Egg in 2.143987 Seconds without damaging the Universe as we know it”……

Seems we’ve derailed off the track big time, so, I suggest we pick this up with a new Post after Valentine’s Day tomorrow, as I want to detail out my choices as to why they were selected….. We’ll call D.I. Music II, or something like that…..
