XXX Olympics 2012

It would probably be more enjoyable if it were the Triple X Olympics instead of the 30th. But I Digress. I heard this morn on the news that a basketball player could not practice because of an injury, Come to find out, the player who plays with the San Antonio Spurs is playing for the French Team. OK, 1. Why is a current NBA player playing on the French team?!! 2. when did the olympics become the worlds All Star Game? Isn’t the games supposed to be for AMATEUR Athletes?

  1. XXX – Does that mean they’re going back to the original Olympics where all the participants performed nude (Triple X Rating)?….. As far as the Git playing for the French, it just goes to show you that money and/or fame is more important to most these days than anything else….. I guess he wasn’t good enough to play on the American team?……

Tony Parker _is_ French, though he’s also a naturalized citizen of the U.S. If you watched the western conference finals, you’d see that he’s still a very good player.

Your should have brought up point about the Olympics being amateur athletes 20 years ago. The “Dream Team” in the 1992 olympics was the first U.S. basketball team fielded with NBA players. But prior to that, the Soviet Block teams always blurred the line between amateur and professional (see their hockey teams).

Quite a few of the events are still “Amateur.” The shooters, for example.

  3. I liked John Moe’s tweet yesterday: “It’s the 20th anniversary of the Dream Team. A bunch of guys who came from ahead when everyone believed in them.”

  4. Sorry it took so long to comment, My Phone…….. My problem is that most of the games are not even part of the original Olympics. Now I am aware that many countries bred and tailored athletes just for the Olympics IE:USSR, I am aware that we had to put our professional career athletes in the games to be competitive. I just can’t get past how the games have been turned into another All Star Game.
