It’s agreed, no Google, no time.
Here’s a quickie. All you people in OK,
don’t rush to answer until I say go. “WHAT IS GUN COTTON”?

This is way easier than the other ones! It’s the predecessor to the single-base nitrocellulose smokeless powders (bonus question: What’s the other component in double-base powders?). It’s made by soaking some kind of cloth, textile, or wood fiber in nitric and sulfuric acids. Depending on how it’s made, it’s either true nitrocellulose or a mix of nitrate and sulfate salts. In any case, it acts more like smokeless than black powder.

Related note: One of my uncles shoots black powder cartridge silhouette competition and says that smokeless powder is a passing fad ;).

And we have a winner. Huskysooner, you answered the question correctly and then some. (You will have to figure out point system for your question.)
According to my point tabulation, jj…..15 points
huskysooner…….10 points
me………15 points by default. I think the
questions will get
harder.

Whatta I know way up here in the North where we have 100 names for rain?

I just looked up “Sooner”. Not very flattering. Sounds like the state of Oklahoma was founded by squatters. Is this true or another myth?
May 3rd, 2006 at 6:03 pm
Well, not exactly squatters, but people who just couldn’t wait for the official start of the 1889 land run to stake their claims….. Why they choose to brag about it and let the whole world know by nicknaming the state and the University “Sooners” I have often wondered about….. These so-called “Sooners” grabbed the best plots for themselves and a lot of them became leaders of the community and later the state, and the way things are run around here, I think their descendents are still in power…. Who said cheaters never win?……
May 4th, 2006 at 12:01 pm
Yeah, just plain “cheater” is more apt than “squatter.”

So the University fight song goes something like ” Cheat, Cheat, Cheat, Kick Em In The etc.”?
