West Spanish Peak Expedition
After seeing Jek’s beautiful photo from the great northwest, I thought I’d share one from a hike I took with some neighbors, also a couple of weeks ago. This one was taken between Cordova Pass and West Spanish Peak in the Blood O’ Christ mountains. We reached the summit about 2 hours and some sangre, sweat and tears later.

I’m tuning up my Raider, RtG…. I think I can climb it in 4-wheel low…

You know, those peaks look much better close up All I ever get to see them is from a windshield at 75MPH

Nice shot! Looks like you had to work for it: Wikipedia has the hike as a >2,000 foot gain over 3.5 miles. Sounds like a fun one.

I finally conquered the sucker ( there was an aborted attempt in 2000 ), but at the end of the day, it felt like I was the one who got his arse kicked. At around 13,000 feet, we were stopping to catch our breath every 50 steps.

It’s hard to breathe climbing the mountains in the OKC area also….. Nose plugs are recommended as the mountains are in reality waste management dumps….. We have one mountain range on the South side and one on the North to accommodate the most experienced climbers….. You have to watch out for beer can slides…. They can cover you in seconds!……

I think this calls for your own expedition of the OK hills. Let’s see ’em!

Yeah, MR, you can get some photos, but be sure to stay downwind.

I shall submit the first “Scratch and Sniff” .jpg in computer history….. Be sure to have a window or two open when viewing…… Probably be this weekend before I can venture forth….. Have to dig out my equipment, especially my old Army gas mask……

The Ute indians called the Spanish peaks ” Wayatoyah ” or,” The Breasts of the World “.
MR, I don’t think the Raider is gonna make it up W. Spanish Peak, even in 4-wheel low, but we’ve got some dandy 4WD roads in these parts.

RtG, I’m really gonna take you up on your visitation offer…… Hopefully, sometime before Winter sets in…… You do have something that can pull me out if the old Raider falters?……

What, the Raider doesn’t have a winch ? I’ve got some chain and a come-along.

Not too many folks up here in Bronco country would want to be seen in a Raider. Isn’t this the first football reference since the Super Bowl ?

I’ve been thinking about buying a front winch…. It has a very heavy-duty factory mount and 1/2″ steel rod pull loops front and rear…… Not being a big football fan, I had never thought of the football reference….. My Raider would make a hell’va linebacker though!…….
