Love Song, "Annie Had A Baby"

By Hank Ballard and The Midnighters 1954

Annie had a baby, cant work no more
NO, no, no, no, no, no, no
Annie had a baby, cant work no more
Every time she start to working
She has to stop to walk the baby cross the floor

She had to walk with the

baby
Instead of me
talk to the baby
Instead of me
sing to the baby
instead of me
cling to the

baby
instead of me
Now I know.

Chorus

Sunn,

  1. Man, I haven’t thought about Hank Ballard in years.
Google may have been the greatest program of all time for its’ contribution to the information highway.
I’ll have to see if I can find a site to give HB & the Midnighters a listen.
It’s been a long time comin’ (D. Crosby)

  2. You’re way ahead of me. All I knew was “Annie Had A Baby”.

  3. Let me know if you find a site.

  4. Anon, I looked in my vast collection, lo & behold I have 5 or 6 tracks by Hank Ballard on old R&B compilation discs. No Annie Had A Baby. However, one track is “Work With Me Annie”. If you want I can e-mail you mp3 files of the songs.

  5. Out of the past. Right! “Work With Me Annie”, (Roll with me Annie. Roll on, roll on.). That one got banned too. If its not too much trouble, I’d like to hear them again. You can get my email address from either MRambler or Jek. I dont think I should post it in the open.

“Annie Had A Baby” must have come after “Work With Me Annie”.
