Generational Songs……

I don’t know if any of you remember a songwriter/musician from the ’60’s/’70’s by the name of John Cage, but he wrote a song called, “As Slow as Possible.”…….. The song would take 629 years to play…….. And they say pop culture has no lasting value……

The Dukes of Stratosphear

TTop loaned me “Chips From The Chocolate Fireball”, The Dukes of Stratosphear anthology.  Remember them from the 60’s?  The CD cover reports that it features all of “Psonic Psunspot and 25 O’Clock”.  Still not ringing a bell?  Well that’s because they didn’t really exist in the 60’s.  This album is all about psychedelic music: It […]

Meet The Beatles

We delight in hearing stories detailing the ostentatious demands of rock bands and piggy Hollywood stars. Well, we’d like to direct Sharon Stone, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Aguilera to the concert contract rider, a study in modesty from The Beatles. The most influential band ever had simple demands when they toured the U.S. in 1965 […]

Your favorite Music

How bout a diversion. I am curious, who is your favorite musical artist and why? For extra credit, What was their best piece of music. I know MR. did a similar post on this but I am just curious on a basic level. As a side line, What is on your I-Pod (If you have […]

Pool payola

Oh, this is fitting. Schmuck by the pool trying to impress a gal and ends up costing his company million$. A Sony Music promo exec unknowingly sparked Attorney General Eliot Spitzer’s major payola investigation when he started hitting on a woman at a poolside bar at a Miami hotel last year. The exec bragged about […]

Music Please……..

Since I don’t have Sat Radio, I don’t listen to internet radio because I have a slow dial-up connection, and OKC doesn’t have any Alternative or Progressive radio stations, can anyone give me suggestions on any new groups and/or albums in the Yes, Moody Blues, King Crimson vein?…….. Or, let me know if any exist…….. […]

Twelve New Millionaires……

Who are they?…… They claim they want to be anonymous, but they are giving interviews left and right…… It’s the twelve jurors in the “Beat It” boy trail……. It’s the only thing I can come up with that would explain the verdict……. I told more than one person before the trail that Mr. Weirdo Elephant […]

Popped Culture……

Most Rock ‘n’ Roll musicians and fans probably already know this, but here it is anyway……. Doug Ingle of the band Iron Butterfly was tring to write a song called “In the Garden of Eden.”……. But according to the band’s drummer, Ron Bushy, Doug drank too much red wine…… When he tried to sing the […]

Why does commercial radio suck?

I read a local radio personality’s blog (somewhat infrequently). She works at KEXP, a great local noncommercial station that is also the most successfully internet radio station. Today she had a fascinating post from one of her readers about “Why does commercial radio suck?” , which details how unreliable (and probably unrepresentative) the ratings system […]

Low cost music recording gear for a PC

A friend asked me for suggestions on buying a sub $1000 PC music recording system. What I suggested certainly is not the cheapest option, but it should deliver very good results. Steinberg Cubase SL3 — recording software Musician’s Friend has Cubase SL3 for $300. The main reason I like it over Sonar is that it […]

HARD KNOX AND DURTY SOX

Nope, no mis-spelling…… This is from the liner notes of the album that would be my answer to the old question of,”If you were stranded on a deserted island with no hope of rescue and you had your choice of only one music album to listen to, what would it be?”….. I’d be interested in […]

“I’m so Glad, I’m Glad, I’m Glad”

From an old Cream song….. In my context – meaning “I’m so glad” to see some other people posting….. I was starting to get the Pink Floyd syndrome, wondering “Is there anybody out there”?……. (Besides Jek and I)…… I was about one bar (measure or pub, take your choice) and two E-Flats from shutting the […]

New music – very nice

A friend of mine loaned me Absolution by Muse. He described it as Radio Head meets Queen. That’s a pretty good description. The Queen aspect is mostly vocal, as there are no Brian May style guitars. To me, the harmonies at times are very ELOish ala Jeff Lynn. I really enjoy the CD and have […]

Internet Radio – Aural Moon

A quick post about my favorite internet radio station, Aural Moon. If you like all forms of Progressive Rock, then you will likely enjoy Aural Moon. Since I’ve been listening (late 2002), I’ve actually purchased more CDs per month. I attribute this to the great influx of recordings I have never been exposed to previously. […]
