IT’S FRIDAY THE 13TH!…….

I don’t guess you would actually call it a Holiday, but, oh well, it is in the Holiday season…….  I been out and about, but, with this touch of flu, or whatever bug I got, I’m going to call it an early day, watch a DVD for a while and then let it watch me (I just set my player on repeat and let it roll)…….  Everybody have a SAFE Friday the 13th right on into the remaining Holidays……..

It’s COLD!!……

Not only is it snowing here right now, it’s 19 degrees and we’re not supposed to get above freezing, day or night, until next Wednesday!…..  It looks like we’ll break a new low record tonight that was set back in 1950, which was 5 degrees…..  The low tonight is predicted to be 2 (YES, TWO (2) Degrees), plus a couple of other single digit nights before this thing breaks….  B-r-r-r-r-r……  The big OU-OSU game is scheduled to start at 11:00 am tomorrow…….  They’re predicting kickoff temps between 12-18 degrees…..  I think I’ll watch it on TV, if I can…..  Since I don’t have cable, I usually go over to a friend’s house to watch the OU games, but, if there is still snow and ice on the roads, it’s not worth it…..  Hopefully, it’ll be on regular air TV…..  Of course, I guess I can’t complain too much, as we didn’t get the usual ice storm before the snow, so we are in a lot better shape than most of the US East of us……  Looks like this storm goes all the way across the U.S. South to North from border to border…..  Looks like it’s going to be a L-o-n-g Winter…..  Bundle up, check on your friends and neighbors, bring in the cat, light the fireplace, and stay home (if you’re able) and enjoy it as best you can…..  Get out the snowshoes and build a snowman!……  Ho-Ho-Ho!……

Back in OklaLooby…..

Yep, I’m back, trying to recover from packing in about a month and half’s worth of good times in 8 days (The 2 travel days don’t count, especially the 13 HOURS it took to get to Seattle due to flight delays)……  Getting settled back in slowly while trying to make some progress on a “To Do” list that’s longer than any kid’s Christmas List (Ha!)…..  Happy Holidays to everyone, since, somehow, the season has sneaked up on me again…..  Got lots to due before the old Christmas deadline, which is fast approaching……  Good and Bad to be back, but, what can you do?…..  The best you can I guess…..  Happy Holidays……

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYBODY – EVERYWHERE…

May the actual spirit of the holiday affect everyone’s outlook on the way they treat other people and the way they view the World and our Environment….  If just one person changes his/her I, Me, Mine outlook, then the Thanksgiving Spirit was a success!……  HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE, and beware “Black Friday” (sounds like a Plague, doesn’t it?)…….

It’s Pre-Turkey Day…You Turkeys…..

Happy Thanksgiving to the MR Community, one and all……  Writing this today, just in case tomorrow I will be too busy (eating, Eating, EATING), to think about such things as sending out a T-Day wish……  Have a safe and fun one…….

Jealousy – Smelishly…..

Right?….  No one’s Posting or commenting because I’m having a SUPER GREAT time in Seattle (Ha!)…..  The weather’s great – I brought all the OklaLooby sunshine with me and the temps are moderate with NO wind…..  Already been jammin’ and going out to listen to music tonight!…..  I know it has to end in less than a week, but, I plan to stuff up to a month of good times into it!…..  “Wish You All Were Here”……  No matter where you go – There you are!……  So-o-o-o, is there anybody out there…..  Anon, you don’t count – you live here and I’ve already visited you and will again more than once……  Happy FREEZING Weather there in OklaLooby…….

Friday, November 22, 1963 -er- 2013…..

It’s almost 50 years now since our Government went down the tubes (My Opinion)……  Where were you (if you were alive then)?……  It’s ironic that the 50 year mark of Kennedy’s Assassination hits on the exact same day of the week…..  My irony in the whole matter was that I was a junior in High School…..  At 1:00 pm, I walked into my “American History” class, if you can believe that…..  The first indication that something big was going on was that there was a TV set in the classroom – we never had one in there before……  Walter Cronkite was passing on the happenings in Dallas minute by minute……  So that’s where I was……  I know there’s some of us old enough in the MR Community to have been around then – What do you remember, if you’d like to share?……

I’ve Got It…..

Going to Seattle soon…..  The part I hate is going through Security…..  Here’s my plan…..  I’m wearing NOTHING but see-through underwear – no shoes, no pants, no shirt, etc……  My bags with all be transparent plastic and anything electronic I’ll ship a day or two ahead of departure…..  It may sound weird, but, that’s right in line with what they would make you do if they could get away with it…..  Of course, I’ll probably be arrested for being a nut case, but, that fits in with everyone in our current Government anyway…..

English Smeglish….

Let’s just call this a “filler” Post…..  I’m busy getting ready to head to the Great Northwest and I’m trying to keep my promise to Post more……  REMEMBER, Uncle MR wants you to Post too! (homage to the old WWII recruitment poster, “Uncle Sam Wants You!”)……  I was typing up a recent Post at my normal breakneck speed (I did take typing in High School and did excellent, although, at the time, I thought it was a worthless effort), and I made a goof, which got me to thinking ( that’s always trouble)……  Okay, Okay, to the point of the whole thing…..  Here’s the Joke (?) – Maybe you’ll like it – Or not…..  “What’s the difference between a “Dud” and a “Dude” – the letter “E”…. Ha!…..  Dude, of course, being slang for a male and Dud being something that’s basically useless…..  I’ve known many such people that fit BOTH terms!….  I’m sure you have too…..  All right, so it’s not the best joke in the World, but, I thought I would start aiming our Blog to a somewhat lighter horizon……  Anyone out there have a “Homemade” joke they’d like to share?…..  Come on, now, one of the requirements of being an MR Community member, or, for that matter, a member of the Human Condition, is a sense of humor…..  In this day and time, we all need a good laugh……

I Can’t Believe It……

On the news the other day, I actually heard a newscaster use the term “Climate Change” as opposed to the old standby “Global Warming” in a broadcast concerning the typhoon in the Philippines……  Maybe there’s hope for the weather forecasters yet….  Sorry about that, HS…..

Back Again, Finally!…..

I know you’ve heard it before, but, I will try to start making more Posts in the future…..  Of course, this doesn’t mean you Community Members can’t make Posts when I don’t…..  Huh?….  How about a little vocal support out there?…..  I just updated the Blog without backing up the files since no one has posted since the 17th of last month……  I’m racking my brain to come up with a good Post that doesn’t include politics – That’s about all you hear these days…..  In a word – DOOMED – that’s what we are with the so-called leaders we have…..  They’re all I, Me, Mine Looby’s and have no concept or care about the people they are governing/making laws for…..  They’re more than above the law and they plan to stay that way…..  I wonder what they’ll do WHEN it all comes tumbling down around their so over righteous asses?  Probably show their true colors, wimpier and cry like babies, and blame it all on the population for not being the sacrificial all following herd of dumb animals that they have always believed us to be……  Okay, Okay – Enough on the Idiot Elite – It’s gone too far to stop anyhow…..  I’ll try to make a good old music Post in the near future…..  Any comments/posts from “The Herd”?…….

Twerking…………..Yes Or No?

Best-selling author Tom Clancy has died at age 66

Reprinted from Yahoo News:

NEW YORK (AP) — Tom Clancy, whose high-tech, Cold War thrillers such as “The Hunt for Red October” and “Patriot Games” made him the most widely read and influential military novelist of his time, has died. He was 66.

Penguin Group (USA) said Wednesday that Clancy had died Tuesday in Baltimore. The publisher did not disclose a cause of death.

Clancy arrived on best-seller lists in 1984 with “The Hunt for Red October.” He sold the manuscript to the first publisher he tried, the Naval Institute Press, which had never bought original fiction.

A string of other best-sellers soon followed, including “Red Storm Rising,” ”Patriot Games,” ”The Cardinal of the Kremlin,” ”Clear and Present Danger,” ”The Sum of All Fears,” and “Without Remorse.”

Clancy had said his dream had been simply to publish a book, hopefully a good one, so that he would be in the Library of Congress catalog. Four of his books, “The Hunt for Red October,” ”Patriot Games,” ”Clear and Present Danger,” and “the Sum of All Fears” were later made into movies, with a fifth based on his desk-jockey CIA hero, “Jack Ryan,” set for release later this year.

His 17th novel, “Command Authority,” is due out that same month from G.P. Putnam’s Sons.

Born in Baltimore on April 12, 1947 to a mailman and his wife, Clancy entered Loyola College as a physics major, but switched to English as a sophomore, saying later that he wasn’t smart enough for the rigors of science.

Ironically, his novels carried stiff doses of scientific data and military detail.

After graduation in 1969, he married his wife Wanda and joined her family’s insurance business, all the while scribbling down ideas for a novel.

In 1979, Clancy began “Patriot Games,” in which he invented his hero, CIA agent Jack Ryan. In 1982, he put it aside and started “The Hunt For Red October,” basing it on a real incident in November 1979, in which a Soviet missile frigate called the Storozhevoy attempted to defect.

In real life, the ship didn’t make it, but in Clancy’s book, the defection is a success.

By a stroke of luck, President Reagan got “Red October” as a Christmas gift and quipped at a dinner that he was losing sleep because he couldn’t put the book down — a statement Clancy later said helped put him on the New York Times best-seller list.

It led to a string of hits, both on the page and in Hollywood blockbusters. He even ventured into video games with the best-selling “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier,” ”Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction” and “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent.”

“He was a consummate author, creating the modern-day thriller, and was one of the most visionary storytellers of our time,” Penguin Group (USA)’s executive David Shanks said in a statement Wednesday.

Clancy continued to play off — and sometimes almost anticipate — world events, as in the pre-9/11 paranoid thriller “Debt of Honor,” in which a jumbo jet destroys the U.S. Capitol during a joint meeting of Congress.

The latest Jack Ryan movie, directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Chris Pine, is set for release in the U.S. on Christmas Day. Keira Knightly plays Jack Ryan’s wife and Kevin Costner plays his mentor at the CIA.

Clancy resided in rural Calvert County, Md., and in 1993 he joined a group of investors led by Baltimore attorney Peter Angelos who bought the Baltimore Orioles from businessman Eli Jacobs.

Clancy also attempted to bring a NFL team to Baltimore in 1993, but he later dropped out of the effort.

Congress?……

After I made the “Wind of Change” Post on 28AUG13 (scroll down a few Posts and you’ll find it), a friend suggested putting it to music in the form of “Imagine” by John Lennon…..  I started it and kind of got sidetracked, but, with what the worthless Yo-Yo’s are doing now – as in shutting down the Government, maybe I should finish it and put it up on the internet……  Here’s the first four lines I wrote, and, boy, are they appropriate!…..

“Imagine there’s a Congress,
Not like the one we have….

One who really does things,
Not just sit on their ass….”

Should I go ahead and finish it with the info from the “Wind of Change” post?…. If they do shut everything down I think that is a big YES….. “What a way to run a railroad” (Quote by Daffy Duck)

Rainy Day Women #12 & 35…..

We recently did our version of this Bob Dylan classic from the mid-’60’s…..  It’s fun to play and we added our own twist to it……  What really interests me most, though, is the title…..  There’s no mention of women, rainy or not, in the song or any numbers…..  By all rights the title of the song should be, “Everybody Must Get Stoned” – this line is at the end of every verse, all 5 of them….  S-o-o-o, why did Robert Zimmerman (Bob Dylan) name it what he did?…..  I think you have to look at the radio industry during that period – a song with any hint of drugs in the title would have been immediately banned from air play by the censors and the program executives…..  They probably wouldn’t even have listened to the song – the title would be explicit enough to get it banned…..  I’m not sure this is the reason that Dylan named it as he did, and right now I’m too busy to do the research to see why he named it as he did….  I just thought I’d mention it…..  Maybe someone in the community might want to pursue it further…..  Remember – “Everybody Must Get Stoned”, but, if you do, do it in moderation (Ha!)…..
